Sunrise

We need to have a party!
For one thing, Nathan and I bought gifts for the whole gang (defined as: those who actually post plus Thomas) and we think it would be the most fun to give them if we were all together. Plus we all leave for college very soon so we need to get together before then just because, y'know? So I know timing will be a real issue. Right now we're mostly free, but time will fill up very soon because Evie and the Canadians are coming and then our time will be structured. I'm volunteering our home for a location, I just need to know when you guys are leaving, and when, before that, you could come. Then I will send out a Facebook invitation, and post on here too! We'll be back Monday night, and recovered from jetlag by Wednesday.
In summation, if we have a party, you all get stuff, plus we get to have a party.

Marten, are you going to catch the dolphin? No, you're just going to eat my torso.

I think I may be too great of a genius

And Erin continues to turn her incredibly boring life into an incredibly good read. Seriously, I don't know how you can get so down on yourself. Anyway, about me.
Before anything else, I want everyone who cares to know that I'm working on a pants post, writing it in phases of sleep deprivation as I can afford them. I can't afford that many, but I work full time, so give me a break. There's a draft saved if you want to read what I've got so far.
In other news, I work full time. I probably posted about that before, but now I don't have to wake up at 4. The people are a lot more sociable now, though I often find myself unable to do anything. I am, however, feeling less and less guilty about getting paid 11.45 and hour for standing around waiting for instructions.
I saw Pirates last night, and I don't know what the critic's problem was. I understood the plot perfectly. Sure, there were some random twists, but the whole thing is built perfectly off the first. It wasn't nearly as real as the first one, probably because in the first one they waited a while to do the fancy computer stuff. My only real problems were that it was too silly, and the first time we actually saw the kraken, it was reminiscient of the rancor from Return of the Jedi. I want to watch it with everyone, and most of all Erin, because I have a lot of funny comments that only she would get. I can't remember them all right now, but I will when I see it again.
Also, I have a new toy. It is a magical toy that takes me places that I want to go. It has doors that close all the way and it doesn't die unless I don't give it enough gas when I let off the clutch. I bet none of you know what I got. You'll never guess, I'm too good at mysterious clues. I love my new toy.
Last, but not least, something that caught half of my world completely by surprise and the other half saw coming a mile away: I'm dating Lina Salwak. Sure, I'm leaving for college in forty-something days, but she'll still be in town for breaks and stuff. Who knows, maybe it won't work, oh well, I've known the girl for ten years, I'm not going to screw anything up. Heck, sometimes it seemed like we were already dating, anyway, might as go with that. My only real doubt comes from being with a girl who doesn't appreciate the intricacies of Star Wars.
Well, that's my current life in a nutshell, and that's what it feels like sometimes. I'm too busy for it to be summer.

Marten, are you going to catch the dolphin? Oh, you're just going to eat my torso.

...And then they made me their chief.

People have asked to know what I have been doing this summer. Well, it's been boring, which is why I haven't posted. But here is a recap.

The summer started off strongly with about a week and a half of lounging, sleeping, and lethargy. It then continued to improve as motivation came to me, I set deadlines, and I persevered enough to actually *meet* those deadlines for about two weeks. I wrote a lot. Three stories: Requiem, Idylls, and Pemberley.

Things hit a sharp decline when I was finally made to call the JC Penney and get my stupid job back. Since that time, I have been doing a lot of working at said job. And working sadly a lot less on the job I actually semi-enjoy, the Gawain project. Deadlines failed to be met. My job is stupid and I hate it. The most productive things I have done are 1) steal register tape and do vague story-planning on it back in Infants and Toddlers for a few minutes at a time, and 2) teach myself how to invoke the Right of Parley. ("Parley! I invoke the Right of Parley! According to the Code set forth by the Brethren of the Dread Pirates Morgan and Bartholomew you have to take me to your captain!" I think.)

I have hosted a marathon of nine hours worth of Pride and Prejudice movies with Whitney and Bethany, which was awesome.

I have seen three movies: A Prairie Home Companion, in which everybody I liked was very good and Linday Lohan sucked surprisingly almost not at all; Superman Returns, in which Superman was very, very attractive and *le sigh, swoon*; and Pirates, which was really kickass, and which I review and squee about in detail on my lj.

This morning I got up very early to have breakfast with my grandparents, went to the bank, watched a deer eating from our bird feeder, and then took a nap. I got up from the nap and read and took a shower. My brother is painting his room. He was going to have some of his friends help him, because apparently he is Tom Sawyer, but that fell through. Meanwhile I have been dwelling much on the POTC characters, trying to predict what's going to happen in the third movie and understand what happened to them psychologically in the second, because that's just what I do.

Tomorrow I am going to see Les Miz, and I am excited. And... that's about it.

World cup water bottles

(Some of you may have gotten this in an e-mail. The fact is that right as I finished the e-mail I realized it would make a good blog post. It'll be different though.)
I'm writing this to the sound of 20 or so slightly (or more than slightly) drunken Italians singing their national anthem at the tops of their lungs(actually at this point they've either moved onto another song or the anthem is beyond recognition), setting off fireworks, and blowing a foghorn. We watched the cup at home because of Giorgio's superstition, but shortly after we won the neighbors were kind enough to bring the party here. I have never seen the likes of it. The game went into double overtime and then penalty kicks, and Italy only won by one kick. As soon as it ended we all (Paola, Giorgio, Aunt Judith, us, and Giorgio's childhood friend Francesco) jumped up and hugged each other, and then Giorgio said "Victory music!" and put "We are the champions" in the CD player cranked way up.
Rome is going to be very happy when we arrive (or very hungover or both). Unfortunately because we do leave tomorrow, we cannot join in the partying. Earlier today the festivities included a pick-up soccer game in which my team trounced Nate's though not thanks to either of us. It was all in all an amazing, and very Italian, experience. Rome, here we come!

Orangina

I've been busy the last many days. I went to Chicago and then Standing Stone and am now in Italy, and I'm keeping a journal so that I might post a long report of my travels upon my return. They have been most eventful, and I bought a digital camera so there might even be Italian pictures, provided we can remember to use it (so far not so much). Anyway, two days after my first trip out of the country, I must say it's not how I expected it. I expected it to be fundamentally different. Instead, it's fundamentally the same but different in lots of small ways. This computer, for instance, has all it's punctuation in silly places, moved around to fit in the £, the €, and a bunch of stuff like รง and §. I do like how there's actually a key for ° though. We could use one of those. Also public restrooms have weird toilets, the outlets are different, light switches are different, cheese is superior (something to do with ours being overregulated) and soccer is a big deal, especially for Italy right now, as you probably know. Anyway, all this is just a preview of my eventual interesting exciting post, though I don't blame Michael at all for his frustration - there are people like Paul, and Erin, and, dare I say it, Thomas, who could easily have posted some time in the last however many weeks and we want to know what you've been up to. Even if it's boring! This blog is already dying and we haven't even left ofr our respective colleges (except for Erin, of course, who is all settled in). For shame, Compendium, for shame. God holds you over the fire like a spider, blah, blah, blah post!

Trekkin' On

I think We're going somewhere
We're on to something good here
Out of sight, Out in space,
trying to save the human race
I think We're going somewhere
We're on to something good here
Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and Scotty too,
And all of our intrepid crew.
Somewhere back there we left the tribbles all behind,
We beamed them all over to station K-9,
We're going and we're never knowing where we're going,
to go back to where we were would just be wrong -
We're Trekking on,
Trekkin' on,
If Scotty get's those warp engines turned on,
We're Trekkin' on, Trekkin' on,
And we won't sit back,
And take this anymore
Because we boldly go,
Where no man has gone before
To go back to where we were would just be wrong -
We're Trekkin' on.
I think We're going somewhere
We're on to something good here
If somethings wrong, out in space,
The Enterprise is on the case
I think We're going somewhere
We're on to something good here,
Adversity? We get around it,
Sought out new life and now we found it.
Somewhere back there we left the klingon ship behind,
Blew up their warp engines, sped off at warp nine,
We're going and we're never knowing where we're going,
to go back to where we were would just be wrong -
We're Trekking on,
Trekkin' on,
The dilithium is going, going gone,
We're Trekkin' on, Trekkin' on,
And we won't sit back,
And take this anymore
Because we boldly go,
Where no man has gone before
To go back to where we were would just be wrong -
We're Trekkin' on.
Yeah, every week when you beam down to me,
We trust in you the fate of the whole galaxy,
Yeah, I think we're going somewhere,
We're onto something good here,
We're gonna make it after all.

You were with Andre' last night! GIRL, HE RAPED YOU!
