Jack-O-Lantern
So, crazy stuff is going down at the College of Wooster, a happy, magical place where it rains frequently and some people are sometimes happy.
My big item of news, thought most of you already know, is that I've managed to snag the position of News Editor for the Wooster Voice. Technically I'm co-news editor, since I'm sharing the post with my friend Andrew. I'm really excited about it, although it is a tremendous amount of work and responsibility. I finally feel like I'm someone around campus, like I'm playing an important role that no one else is. I don't think too many freshmen get that opportunity.
I've also finally started working, doing bitchwork for the Ohio Light Opera. I don't mean that disrespectfully, I'm quite happy with the job. The pay sucks but the people are nice, the hours are flexible, and the work's not too challenging. I could do a lot worse. Plus there's a lot of opportunity for advancement, or for a really sweet summer job if I wanted it. I'll probably wave it in favor of going home for the summer. The other thing is that doing "bitchwork" for a group whose function is to stage Gilbert and Sullivan plays is somewhat emasculating. Maybe I'll stick to calling it "office work."
Today, for Halloween, a buch of kids from my Graphic Novel Seminar dressed up as different Graphic Novel characters. I'll post a picture of my costume and see if anyone save Nate and Marten can identify it. The other kids went as cats and mice from Art Spiegelman's Maus, which of course meant that they went as Jews (though the mice, David and Gillian, actually are Jewish) or as Nazis (Lindsay and Ryan are NOT Nazis).
I think we need a new template, btw...
Also, I am still updating Blogg the Art Show and Other Side of the Corndog, albeit infrequently. When NaNoWriMo starts tomorrow, I'll be posting it in bits on Corndog so you should try to keep up.

chimpanzees on this motherfucking pogo stick. It's time to open some windows.

Place holder for new title scheme!
I've had a decent time past few weeks. It'a really only been one since getting back to wooster, but it feels like longer. King Lear has taken up a large portion of my evenings. As Prop Master, however, I don't actually do much. My duties are as follows: about 2 hours before the house opens, I pre-set props, and at the end of the show I strike them. Durring the show, I sleep, read, do homework, complain, juggle, and generally kill time in a slow, painful manner. It seems like the sort of thing anyone can do, but based on the feedback I've received from the stage manager, I've decided that I'm conceptually vital. I'm sort of a stress lock; I'm there so Kristen doesn't have to worry about props, even though, in practice, they don't need that much attention, anyway.
Another good thing to come of Lear is Dale being too busy to make theatre tech very stressful, though he still manages to complicate some things durring class. Dale teaches with what I call the grandpa lecture method, meaning the majority of the subject matter is anecdotal. He basically spews history and technique for an hour and half, writing down very little, and not really outlining his point at all. If you have a bad, or even average memory, you basically have to write down everything he says word for word to get a decent score on his tests. Occasionally questions will be based on "stage lore." If Sturm's class should have counted as a tech credit, Dale's should count as a history, and maybe cultural perspectives class.
The only thing about Lear (kind of the center of my life at the moment) that really bothers me is the fact that I'm doing nothing when I could be spending time with Lindsay. That's right, gather round, it's another love interest. The interesting thing about this one, though, is that I can honestly say I have no real inhibitions with this one. I have no weird fears in the back of my head, aside from being wary of not having any fears, which is dumb. We can talk pretty much as easily as I can talk to any of you guys. I just have a really good feeling about things with her. It doesn't feel as though things happened for no real reason.
oh, and I've posted a few things on Untitled.

Let other pens dwell on guilt and misery
Hi everybody! Thank you so much for they wonderful birthday post! I feel so special.
I've had a really great birthday today. Everybody's been nice, I read and was complimented in Fiction and Poetry, I got a shirt from my mom that says "Mr. Darcy is my severest critic," I got Wintersmith and Lolita (because I said I wouldn't read Reading Lolita in Tehran until I'd read Lolita) (By the way, does anybody want a copy of Wintersmith, because my mom said she also got me that book for Christmas and will sell it to anybody who wants it). I got lots of cards and lots of love. I went out to dinner with some friends and had one glass of wine and it was completely legal. And then the people at the place made me put on a lobster hat and they sang to me. And then I got Whitney to watch The Office (my very own special birthday episode from NBC-- they did some fun Pam stuff which I liked, and Jim was sooo pretty), just for me! During the day I just watched movies and hung out with friends, and overall it has been a very good day.
The past few weeks have not been very good. To sum it up briefly (I may go into more detail later if you want details) I had two tests, two papers, and two presentations this week, plus all kinds of work to do for my job, plus some very bad things have been happening to my roommate. Like, her uncle killed himself and she has some kind of neurological problem that the neurologist can't figure out what it is and her fiancee broke up with her and her medication was making her more depressed than she would have been, and her parents pretty much suck because they made her come back to school when she just was not emotionally equipped to be here. And I had to deal with it all, pretty much by myself, and I felt pretty trapped and sad and freaked out for a while.
But it's a lot better now, and that's not the glass of wine talking. I love you guys so much and I'm sorry I haven't been online and available for communication more. I promise I will be from now on. I miss you guys. :) *hugs*
Now it's time for Story Time With Erin here in Erin's Room, so I have to go. Thank you again so very much for being so wonderful everyone, especially Jonah for deciding to give me the lovely gift of a birthday post.

Erin's birthday confetti
Laurence Fishburne: I know it's been a while since I've been on this blog, but I have something to say today that I think is important for everyone to hear. "Enough is enough. I've had it with these motherfucking oompa loompas on this motherfucking jet ski. It's time to open some windows."
(awkward pause)
No, I remember, that wasn't it at all. I wanted to wish Erin a happy birthday.
Jonah: Thanks, Laurence, I'll take it from here. I hope that it's actually Erin's birthday, because I'm honestly going mostly on Facebook info here. But even if it isn't, I think it's a great time to come out and say how much Erin means to me. I first met Erin- (awkward pause) kind of a long time ago, and I don't really remember it. But it wasn't long afterward that I realized how awesome a person she was. Whether I was reading her Friendsfic or DIOMing with her, everywhere I saw what I know realize were just small hints of great things to come. And now I realize that the great writing and acting and general creativity I see in Erin is just a hint of what's surely to come as she enters the adult world. (What a scary place! I'm glad I don't have to go as soon as she does!)
Of course, what I'm leaving out is what a great friend Erin can be. She always gives me feedback on writing and pictures, even when I'm not as good at reciprocating, and I can always talk to her if we happen to both be on AIM.
Anyway, I've missed Erin (as well as the rest of you) much since she (and lately the rest of us) has been away at her college. I cry a little inside when she performs and I'm not there to see it. Anyway, on this, Erin Day, I encourage you all to post a little bit about your Erin experience, or good wishes for the birthday girl, or really anything because geez, we're dying here! People need to post!
Now I know what you're all saying. "Jonah, you put this in script form and began it with Laurence Fishburne! Why isn't it silly?" That's why I used the last of our entertainment budget to hire monkeys and meese in Reniassance-style costumes to attempt to perform the soundtrack to Moulin Rouge on accordians and suspended cymbals.
(The ridiculous scene described above is carried out and is funny. It ends when something unexpectedly explodes, but I leave the details do your imagination.)
(Meanwhile, Laurence opens a window and the Oompa Loompas are sucked off the jet ski.)

Rage
I've returned to my old title scheme, things that are orange, because what I was going to use is now our template. So, anyway, rage.
I hate my roommates. When I found out that they were into drinking a lot and smoking both cigarettes and pot, I was amazingly cool about it. I said "They've made their choices and I've made mine but we can still get along and be friends and good roommates." It went well for the first month or so. I made two rules: no storing alcohol in the room, and no smoking in the room. The first they immediately began to ignore and I gave up on; the RA doesn't seem to care anyway about a fridge full of beer. But the second, they have been following. The smoking has been done outdoors or on the roof.
Today I walked into the room and immediately smelled marijuana and Febreze. It was extremely obvious.
"Alec," I said to my roommate who was blasting music on his brand new speakers, "Did you smoke in the room?"
"No," Alec replied.
"Really?"
"Yes. We had a rave party."
At this point I exploded and yelled, than opened my window and turned my fan on. (And would that have been a hard solution to think of, instead of spraying Febreze?) I've decided I'm going to tell them if they do it again I'm going straight to our RA. I won't have all my clothes smelling like drugs, nor will I do second-hand pot all night.
~O~
So, that's the rant, but I have to say that in general college has been awesome. I've made a lot of friends easily, I've done well in band and journalism, and I captured the flag (with Marten's help). I'll try to post a nice story next time.
