So this weekend Katherine Langdon was in town on account of being temporarily kicked out of her bed and breakfast. Being a complete idiot, I forgot she was coming until she called from Akron. Kat wanted to go and see a movie screening of The Black Cat, and an Edgar Allen Poe impersonator give a presentation afterwards, in Ashland. I was going to go with her (Saralyn had work), but right before we were going to leave, Alexa called me and reminded me that I was going to hang out with her that evening (I should probably get a datebook). So we decided to all three go see Poe together. Of course Kat and I had to wait for Alexa and realized we were going to miss the movie, so we read The Black Cat out loud to one another.
On the drive to Ashland, however, everything went wrong. We took the wrong exit out of Wooster right off the bat and got all the way to another town before we realized it. Then we couldn't navigate the town itself (You'd think small towns would be easier to navigate, but when they're really small you don't have time to read the map before you're already on your way out of town. Also I like it when things are laid out in grids.) Then we found the park but couldn't find the band shell. Finally, half an hour after the show started, we discovered the band shell, and it was completely empty. Apparently the whole thing was moved to the high school, on the other side of town (approximately a block away). So at that point we just decided to go to Friendly's and cut our losses.
It would have been awesome if Edgar Allen Poe had walked into Friendly's, but that didn't happen. There were three Harleys parked in front of Friendly's, which I thought was kind of funny. Not exactly a gritty biker gang kind of place. I pictured three Hell's Angels types sitting there eating those ice creams with the clown face.
So that was my exciting evening of not seeing Edgar Allen Poe. In retrospect, not that blogworthy, but on the other hand, it's June 30th.
You should have had me dressed as a geisha; light opera doesn't have vikings.
