PUPPETS CANNAE EVEN EAT PIE!

It is June! And it is Raining! And I shall post!

Only I've had that sitting there since 5 when I got sidetracked and watched Ocean's Eleven instead of looking over the music we sang through tonight. We have started work on The Cabaret Girl. Apparently it's never been performed in the U.S. Also, it's the company's hundredth title, so it's kind of nifty. At first I found it annoying, but now that I've actually been through the thing in its entirety, I find it highly amusing. Here's the OLO synopsis:

Marilynn Morgan, a chorus girl, comes to the shop of music publishers Gripps and Gravvins to audition for the cabaret that the firm is staging. She is sought in marriage by James Paradene, whose father has willed him a fortune, provided that his choice of bride meets with the approval--and it certainly doesn't-- of his aunt, the Marchioness. As part of a concocted scheme to impress her, Gripps borrows Gravvins' estate and invites all the neighboring elite to a swank party for James and Marilynn. When it is discovered that all the neighbors are out of town, Gripps rushes to enlist his cabaret troupe to impersonate the local notables. Gripps himself impersonates the vicar; the entire hoax is exposed only when the real vicar appears. It remains for Marilynn's Hawaiian routine at the cabaret to convince the Marchioness that she and James are indeed meant for each other.

It's full of classic repetition comedy and terribly amusing accents; unfortunately, I'm not included in either. I do get to sing a song about how marvelous a certain town is. The sing through, however, was mostly spent with me wishing I had a more interesting part in it and playing with a rubik's cube. I'm kind of worried about the impression I'm giving to my employers, though. I give what I have when I'm actually performing and rehearsing, but I kind of do my own thing instead of following along when other people are. It's hard to figure out what's normal here because nothing is really normal about Ohio Light Opera. They've reiterated several times that this company functions in a completely different way than other companies, so I'm hoping however I handle it works for them.

I've been hearing talk of some people not getting all the hours they actually worked on their time cards. I'm still not going to keep track, because I am sure that these people simply didn't keep track the right way, or something, and I'm still going to get paid plenty more than what I would have otherwise.

I wore my pirate hat today because I had no other way to keep my head dry. It turned heads. I still do that sometimes. I wonder if it could be a bad thing. This attention is annoying sometimes, and I'm only ever silly for practical reasons anymore.

I have long since forgotten whatever I was going to talk about that would have made puppets, pie, or the former's inability to eat the latter relevant to my post.

\/5:35? Lies!

You should have had me dressed as a geisha; light opera doesn't have vikings.
