So here is Jonah Comstock. This week is the perfect time for me to blog, since Saralyn is out of town for a week on some sort of Alaskan cruise, and I have a lot of time to myself. I'm planning to spend the week finally getting back to writing, though I mostly spent the weekend hanging out with various people. I got to do some more hob-nobbing at the OLO Patron's Night and I drove to Canton with six people in a five person car with no purpose other than to go to Steak 'n' Shake. Back home, Steak 'n' Shake is what you do when you're not doing anything. In Wooster, Steak 'n' Shake is the major outing of the weekend. I am not living in Ohio when I leave college. I also got to watch Marten swordfight with a 30-something professor.
I've been watching a lot of Gilmore Girls since I bought season 2 and I still love this show. I don't care what anyone says. I'm thinking about doing Gilmore Girls quotes for my title scheme. Interestingly enough, the second time around I find myself rooting for Jess, whereas last time I was all for Dean. I wonder if this makes me more or less cynical then the first time I watched this season, or if it has more to do with the fact that I skipped the very pro-Dean first season this time around, so it was like seeing it from Jess's perspective.
So I just found out something rather depressing. For the last 10 years, Pocket Books has been releasing a yearly short story anthology called "Strange New Worlds." It's basically a collection of legitimized, published Star Trek fan fiction. There was a grand prize for the winner, money, and a number of authors went on to get regular gigs writing Star Trek novels for Pocket Books. And these came out for 10 years, and then stopped right before I was old enough to submit. Apparently there will not be a volume 11. Honestly I can't say that submitting to this thing was a childhood dream or anything, but I had hoped I'd at least get a chance. And the worst part is I can't figure out why they discontinued it. Sales I guess, or they figured 10 was a good, round number.
The fact is I had kinda hoped this would be the kick in the pants I needed to get me out of this non-writing slump I've been in. I've gotten so used to writing for class, I haven't been all about the self-motivation. Oh well. I think I just have to stop wallowing and write. Well, Merry Blogging to All and to All a Good Blog!
You should have had me dressed as a geisha; light opera doesn't have vikings.
